Tell me all about Jousting Armadillos?

Recommended Posts

I have zero familiarity with this product. Tell me all about it and who it's good for?

After reading a few existing threads on this -- here's what I'm thinking -- start with JA and see how the discovery method fits my kid -- we're bringing him home from PS for 6th and I just can't decide what direction to go for him on math (This is a kid who in Kinder was taught to tell time and instead of skip counting, taught himself to multiply... and not just 5s -- that's how he makes leaps. ie. he'd look at the clock face and say "It's pointing at the 3. Three fives is fifteen. Three sevens is 21. Three 12s is 36.) I was considering AoPS but am not sure he would like it and I want a gentle transition to homsechooling. I thought JA would be a bit more fun and if he flies through it, maybe move to AoPS? If he likes it and does well but doesn't fly through - stick with Arbor?

Those who have done Arbor through Chuckles- what did you follow up with for Geometry and Alg 2?

(Muppet Boy uses Saxon -- which is a great fit for him) but Sherlock thinks differently than his brother.

I have a ds who is nearly done with JA. We like it. I doubt you'll see a lot of people here who have done them all the way through just because they're still newish and the fad of using them is even a little newer.

I think your plan sounds good. Try JA, see how it goes. Then, if it's a fit, consider sticking with it. Or, if you think he needs a greater challenge, move to AoPS.

We are almost done with US and plan to continue on. My DR has really liked it. We like how it is written directly to the student. It is somewhat discovery, but he explains everything. It feels like step by step discovery? Honestly, I haven't read it all because she does so much of it on her own, so I may be wrong.
