sunshineslp
Curious what reading fluency/comp curriculum you all use it like for younger grades? 3+? I've heard of HOD. Currently I use abeka readers and they are ok. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
UCF612
We use All About Reading until they are fluent.
sbgrace
My best friend loves All About Reading. Her son started the program well behind where his older sister was at his age. That's why she bought the program. He finished well above where she had been at the same age. I used I See Sam (first 3 sets) and Progressive Phonics. I was able to print both free online. It worked for my very different kids.
ScoutTN
No reading program here. I used Phonics Pathways to teach the basics and then we moved right on to real books. Dd moved faster than Ds, but both read well have excellent comprehension. We just read lots, discuss and do some narrating.
Kiara.I
Do you mean for initial teaching, or for "reading comprehension" after they're reading fluently? For initial teaching we mostly did reading aloud to them, some basic "that says 'zzzz,'" let them play on Starfall, did some Progressive Phonics, and then they jumped ahead to fluency so we stopped. For "reading comprehension" I occasionally stop when I'm reading aloud and check that they understand what I mean. We also do narration of some passages so they're answering questions on the passage. But we don't do book studies or any thing like that.
sunshineslp
Yes, sorry, after they know how to read:) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
strange_girl
Memoria Press lit guides. They're basic, no frills workbooks, but both my 1st grader and 3rd grader like them.
Insertcreativenamehere
I use Christian Light Education 4th grade and up. We just read lots of good books and discuss at earlier levels, and the CLE reading 4th grade and above is only a half year course. SilverMoon
None. After they know how to read we read lots and lots of high quality children's literature and discuss them.

sunshineslp
That's ok!! Thanks everyone! Sounds like a reading comp program isn't necessary? I'll look into these suggestions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Kiara.I
That's ok!! Thanks everyone! Sounds like a reading comp program isn't necessary? I'll look into these suggestions. I'd say not necessary. I'd also say that during my school years I *HATED* having to read books in school. They'd give us these cool books, and then they'd completely ruin them by doing "comprehension" stuff with them. It was seriously the most kill-joy thing they could do. I understood the book just fine, I didn't need to pick it to death by doing "activities" about it. ;) So...I might be a bit biased.
