Sarah CB
She's a lovely cat, but now she has weird bald patches on all four legs. The spots are located where it's most convenient for her to reach, she doesn't go out of her way to chew hard to reach places. She's always done a weird toenail biting thing, but it's like it's now morphed to her legs. There are no fleas. There have been no changes to the household or the food. No new people around. She doesn't seem upset when doing it - it's just part of her bathing process now. Any chance of stopping this behaviour?
MarkW
Barbering can come from all sorts of things from anxiety to physical pain. You'll probably want to take her to a vet to get checked out although that can be expensive. Honestly it could be anything from nerves to organ failure.
TechWife
I don't have any specific ideas for you, but I think the cat needs to go to the vet for a thorough exam. It could be something simple as a need for a diet change.
gingersmom
Allergies? Definitely a vet visit.

Bluegoat
OCD, maybe. Or, she itches. You could try changing her food.
KarenNC
When ours started doing it, the vet said it could be due to arthritis (she is an older cat).
Violet Crown
Ours does that as a reaction to spinal arthritis and sensitivity to flea or mosquito bites; one bite sets off intolerable itching. Regular cortisone injections for the arthritis and itching, scrupulous flea treatment, and making sure she doesn't get out in mosquito season.
