moonlight
I am looking to design a biology class for my DS who will be doing 9th grade work next year. I just want a simple/straightforward Biology book to use as a spine, but want to supplement heavily with living books and specific units that interest him. And labs. I don't know what to do about labs! Has anyone done anything like this? Have advice?
EKS
We enjoyed Essential Biology this year. It's a college text for nonmajors.
Upward Journey
I'm using Miller-Levine as a text and RSO 2 for labs.
redsquirrel
Miller-Levine is a pretty standard book. It's easy to come by used on Amazon if you don't mind getting a slightly old edition, but not ancient, lol. Plus, if you google it, you can often find websites from bio teachers with assignments, handouts, tests etc. TOPS is a good place to get labs. I bet Miller Levine has a lab manual. You can prob find it on Amazon plus the teacher's edition. I am always amazed at what I have found there. But yes, good labs are important for high school credit. serendipitous journey
The Home Scientist offers kits that correlate with Miller-Levine (dragonfly cover) -- they also correlate with other texts, look at the FAQs for the other titles; the BK01 kit correlates. We have not used this but came across it via board recs.
Vida Winter
The Biology 2 book from Pandia Press looks good although I have not used it. They have a good sized sample online. Biology 2 My high school daughter will be using these labs later this year: Experiences in Biology ebook & accompanying databook from Homeschool Science Press: https://www.homescho...epress.com/shop

The instructor's guide includes many suggestions for supplemental reading -- lots of living books there -- as well as some videos, and you can download free trial samples at the Pandia Press website.
