Dawn in Ohio
My almost 3 year old has been so good for our first week of school! He loves Magnetix and can play with them quietly for a long time. He also likes putting bands on the geoboard. He really likes to be near us as we work. What have your little people been doing during school time?
8filltheheart
We have been working outside most of the day. My 6 and 3 yods have been spending huge amounts of time on our playset and/or with Barbies/baby dolls in the baby pool. (6 yod's day is finished in about an 1hr first thing in the morning.) Stacey in MA
She also likes to browse picture books (from the library, so different ones each week), play Barbies, cut, color, paste, lacing shapes, etc. My 18mo old is the harder one to entertain. He has been so difficult these past couple of weeks! I went out and bought him a couple of new toys which I will only allow playtime with during school. Hopefully that will appease him! The Mr. Potatohead went over well yesterday, and bought us a good 45 minutes or so! I also bought some Aquadoodle, Colorwonder, and something else for next week. I hope to make another purchase or two to occupy him. Someone here on the board made a suggestion another time of having a box of certain toys that are only played with at school time on specific days of the week (so a box for M, Tu, W, Th, F). The idea is to keep it interesting and special. I am going to try my own version of this and see how it goes. For short periods, my DD4 and DS1 will actually play together on the floor. The few Little People sets seem to be what can engage them both at the same time for now. GL! Glad your week went well! I think 3yo is the age my my kids start to be able to sit for longer, engage themselves in something, without needing mom's attention so much. - Stacey in MA Oh, one more thing....Another suggestion I took from this board (because, yes, I am unable to come up with these things on my own! ha!) is that I assign DS9 and DD6 some 15min. time chunks w/ DD4 to "help" her with her workbooks (she needs the directions read to her). They all have seemed to enjoy this actually! The olders get a sense of helping and authority, and DD4 gets some help while I'm working w/ the other DC. Nice! :-)
Kari C in SC
I know this may not be popular with everyone, but my almost 4 year old will play on http://www.nickjr.com or http://www.noggin.com or http://www.starfall.com or http://www.pbskids.com for as long as I will let him. I keep this for when I need to work one on one with my dd. I am pushing for my dh to build a playset for their birthdays next month. Then I would like to move outside to work while the weather is nice. Oh another thing that has worked well is homemade playdough and glue buttons with a glue stick. Hope this helps! dcjlkplus3
My 3-1/3 yo boy loves to do puzzles. I just have to train him to do only have one out at a time (they are small jigsaw puzzles 25-100 pieces and when 2 - 63 piece Care Bear puzzles get mixed together it makes me crazy.
