Hunter
If anyone is familiar with any of these books help me choose 9 books, one or two per grade, and put them in order of difficulty and logical content. I'm also looking at lining them up with the Guerber texts, 2 Chosen People 3 Greeks 4 Romans 5 Middle 6 Reformation 7 Colonies 8 Republic And then 9/10 Van Loon For year 10 I want to use Where There is No Doctor http://www.amazon.com/Where-There-Is-No-Doctor/dp/0942364155 Year 1, I'm still undecided. Maybe 50 Famous Stories. I'm happy to change that to make it nicely match a science book.
Hunter
It looks like there is a later and longer version of Holden's The Sciences called Real Things in Science. 443 pages. There isn't a professionally published hardcopy of this anywhere, right? http://books.google.com/books?id=nIw_AQAAMAAJ&source=gbs_navlinks_s

Hunter
This MIGHT be a list, or partial list. I found these titles listed in this order in the front of Wonder Book of Chemistry. When I looked up the dates, they seem to confirm a possible order instead of random list. The Story Book of Science 1917 Our Humble Helpers1918 Field Forest and Farm 1919 The Secret of Everyday Things 1920 Animal Life in Field and Garden 1921 The Wonder Book of Chemistry 1921
Openhearted
I am not sure if these are vintage or not. They are published by Memoria Press. Nature's Beautiful Order http://www.memoriapress.com/curriculum/science/natures-beautiful-order J.H. Tiner Science Series http://www.memoriapress.com/curriculum/science/j-h-tiner-science-series I find Nature's Beautiful Order very interesting. I may order it for my own education since it will be several years before the twins are ready for it.

I think maybe the first book is written by MP?
arliemaria
I have a vintage text called All About Famous Scientific Expeditions by Raymond Holden illustrated by Lee J Ames Random House, New York 1955. It includes The Beebe-Barton Bathysphere, The Conquest of Mt. Kinley, The Discovery of the Tomb of Tut-Ankh-Amen, The Burden Expedition to Komodo Island, and The Canadian Arctic Expedition of 1913-18.

It mentions Fabre and Audubon. I wasn't sure about the Tiner.
Hunter
No it is not written by MP. It mentions Fabre and Audubon. I wasn't sure about the Tiner. Christopher O. Blum http://www.augustineinstitute.org/christopher-blum-ph-d This author's works are definitely not in the public domain. I'm trying to come up with lists of books that are available BOTH as free downloadable public domain eBooks AND as hardcopy books that can easily be purchased and read without technology. For example, you can FREELY download the McGuffey Readers, Ray's Arithmetic and Harvey's Grammar, but you can also purchase these texts as professionally published hardcopies from Amazon.com. The Christian Liberty Press and Yesterday's Classics science books are available from the publisher, from Amazon, and as free public domain books from Google and Archive.org. I want that combination of FREE and professionally published HARDCOPY. I'm sorry I was so vague.

Hunter
I should have written "public domain" instead of "vintage". I'm adding Chemical History of a Candle to the list. http://www.amazon.com/Chemical-History-Candle-Michael-Faraday/dp/0486425428/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1430488543&sr=1-1&keywords=9780486425429
