Carolyn in Ohio
Am I understanding this right? It is online lectures - start whenever, go at your own pace, but you still have an instructor grading assignments and giving feedback? And I can call it "AP" on the transcript? This almost sounds to good to be true :) Please tell me about your experiences. Carolyn
Luckymama
A bump for you :)
quark
We didn't use DO for calculus, but just some thoughts (and another bump) before you get other answers. Derek mentions here that the course has passed CB's audit and I think that means it's okay to call it an AP course on the transcript (it would be AP Calculus AB level): http://www.derekowens.com/course_info_calculus.php "This course has passed the AP Course Audit and has been approved by the College Board to bear the "AP" designation." and in the faqs, http://www.derekowens.com/faq.php#B9 "Is the Calculus class an AP class? Yes. This class has passed the AP Course Audit for the 2014-2015 school year and is approved by the College Board to bear the "AP" designation. The class is designed to prepare students for the AP Calculus AB exam and covers all of the course content for AP Caclulus AB as set by the College Board." As to how the course works (we've used physics and I believe all the distance ed courses work the same way), he gives some details on his site. How it works: http://www.derekowens.com/HowItWorks.php
Gratia271
I haven't used DO for Calc AB but will be as soon as DS finishes Precalc with him. I highly recommend these classes for anyone who wants self-paced. After researching other compacted options and finding them cost prohibitive, I decided to try this for Precalc. It is going very well, and Mr. Owens is a pleasure to work with. He is very responsive about breaks, and he doesn't mind students compacting their studies--he does ask for a minimum of three months' payment. TeaTotaler
Ds is currently using DO for AP Calc AB. Quark has already linked to more info about the course. If you have more questions, let me know. Ds has taken Physics with DO in 9th; PreCalc in 10th. We love him as a teacher but he is a wonderful, kind person. Wish he offered AP Calc BC. Ds opted to continue with DO for AB because he didn't really want another Math teacher. :-)
Elise
Hi Carolyn! Dd2 took DO's AP Calculus AB class last year and thought it was excellent. She wrote to thank him when she scored a 5 on the AP in May. :001_smile: He is a very good teacher and is always quick to answer questions. I am definitely planning to use his courses in the future for my other two girls. Two thumbs up here!
Carolyn in Ohio
Thanks to all. This sounds like a great option for Calculus. Carolyn
