Legomom
My ds is doing Saxon Algebra 1 and I think that the piecemeal approach is confusing for him. He is participating in an online class and is so far into it this year that I really don't want to switch curriculums until geometry. Prior to this we used Singapore math, so the Saxon approach is quite different for him. Is there a book or video that might give him a good "big picture" of algebra that would give him a frame of reference for all of these pieces? kiana
Check out Life of Fred from the library if you can get it. Also possibly Asimov's Realm of Algebra.
EKS
Jacobs is excellent for this, but you have to do the problem sets to benefit from it, which I would think would be difficult if he is continuing with Saxon at the same time. almondbutterandjelly
We liked Al and Gebra in the Land of Algebra. We also liked Zaccaro's Real World Algebra chapter(s?) about speaking in math language.
Karen in CO
My daughter started doing Khan academy along with her algebra and loves it. It is easy to add into a program and doesn't require any additional books. I had her start off with a couple of weeks of just Khan then reinforced with her book. It isn't perfect and there are lots of critics of it, but she is doing well and enjoys it.
dereksurfs
There are tons of great Algebra resources available. Here are the ones we really like: * AoPS free online videos * Khan Academy * TabletClass free lessons * Derek Owens Algebra Review ds13 used AoPS Intro to Algebra as his spine program last year. Then we supplemented with Khan Academy and TabletClass over the Summer. For TC we actually used the full program as a review of Algebra 1 prior to starting Geometry at Wilson Hill Academy this Fall. Legomom
Thanks for all of the ideas -- definitely some resources that I didn't know about!
Reefgazer
My DD is loving AoPS free videos and the Alcumus website. I'm stunned she likes those math things; she tried to avoid math when at all possible. There are tons of great Algebra resources available.
