Teaching parts of word - anyone has a good resource

Recommended Posts

First year homeschooling my 5th and 6th graders and while using "Vocabulary from Classical Roots"  (which we love!) I found out that my kids don't really know word parts. Anyone has a pdf or website or any other good resource where I could quickly help them to get caught up?

There are lots of lists online. But if you are looking for more of an informal supplement to what you are doing I highly e commend a game called Rummy Roots. It comes as a handful of simple card games to learn something like 100 roots, prefixes and suffixes from both Greek and Latin. The easiest is akin to Go Fish, where you ask for the meaning to pair with the root. Really, it is one of my 4 yr old's favorite games and I love that she can now dissect words accordingly....but hubby and I have learned a lot as well. There are also more complicated games you can play with the same cards. I think it is a great supplement to any vocabulary study, all the way through SAT prep:)

I was all excited that I could buy Rummy Roots from Amazon but no, while it will let me put it in the cart I can't get it shipped to NZ. Last time I looked it was about $40 + @$10 postage here.

Eta it is only $36 but I have to buy in batches of 6. The postage for 6 is $19. I don't want 6 though. Oh well.

Further research shows Learnex had it in 2004 and Fishpond lists it but doesn't have it (Fishpond does this with nearly everything though). Anyone visiting NZ?

eek and it is 29 pounds from amazon UK.

It appears that Book Depository has it.  They have free shipping worldwide.
