Picture books for modern history?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to find picture books for the 1900's up until now and need ideas on where to look for ideas or how to find them at the library.  If you already know of some, that would be great!  My list so far only has few:

Hanna's Cold Winter

The Yellow Star

The Whispering Town

The Bravest Cat

Christmas in the Trenches

Can anyone help?

Thank you!

Lynn

I am glad you find the list helpful.  We covered modern history last year.  These are the bulk of the titles we read for the 20th and 21st centuries.  You might also like The American Story: 100 True Tales from American History, by Jennifer Armstrong.  It isn't a picture book but the individual stories are short.

Most of the ones I thought of were on Sherry's awesome list.  Wow.  The one topic about which there are a ton more that I know of are the Civil Rights movement, but the ones Sherry listed cover that and are some of the best IMO.

I'll mention just two more that didn't make her list that were favorites for us: War Game by Foreman about WWI and Freedom Summer by Wiles about the Civil Rights movement.
