wapiti
So I'm finally signing dd13 up for the fall course. Any suggestions about what sort of notebook organization worked for your child? Any special "equipment" brand recommendations (compass, straightedge, etc.)? Thanks :)
Kathy in Richmond
No suggestions about the notebook, but would your dd's school accept a grade directly from her AoPS instructor? They will provide one if asked, and they're reasonable & understand the difficulty level.

Luckymama
Dd used a graph paper notebook. She numbered each problem, whether it was from the textbook or from the problem sets. She did Alcumus on the whiteboard.
Kathy in Richmond
OK, I see; at least your principal understands the challenge level! The AoPS % to grade conversion ranges are definitely different than most middle school scales. Your ideas sound fine to me, and I'd definitely request & add in a grade report from her AoPS instructor. My dd used the whiteboard a lot, like Luckymama's dd. One thing that I did for my own documentation was to take a quick digital photo of any particularly clever solutions before they got erased. lewelma
My son uses a gridded bound notebook (paperback not hardback so it lays flat) for all his AoPS classes including geometry. It has a pale red line down the middle so there are 2 columns of work on each page, but clearly sometimes a big circle goes over the line. DS simply writes a header in red indicating if it is work from the textbook or from the class. We save all proofs and comments in a file, but you could just print those out and put them in a binder. You could use a single notebook and have her work from the front for the classwork and work from the back for the textbook and alcumus. So separated but still just one notebook to keep track of.
