txhomemom
I was just browsing the Oak Meadow website for high school course options and realized they redesigned their website and it looks like they redesigned some of the course syllabi as well. There is also a new English course called Introduction to Literature and Composition The Hero's Journey. Just thought I would throw this info out there for anybody looking for curriculum for the upcoming year. http://oakmeadow.com/ Here are their curriculum samples: Oak Meadow Curriculum Samples
TrixieB
Thanks for sharing this! I'm bookmarking the Lit & Comp Hero's Journey for next year -- it looks like it could be just right for my then-9th grader.
marbel
Whoa! Are the curriculum samples new? We have been using their World History syllabus and textbook as a spine for multi-year history studies. (We add a lot of other materials too; we're not just stretching it out.) We are enjoying it. I just ordered their syllabus and teacher's guide for environmental science; was delighted to see they use the textbook I had picked up at a thrift store. And I've been thinking about the lit courses... Thanks for posting!
txhomemom
These are the ones I have been eyeballing: Introduction to Literature and Composition The Hero’s Journey http://oakmeadow.com/courses/intro-to-lit/ World History http://oakmeadow.com/courses/world-history/ (I already have the text so this would be a no brainer) The Study of Music http://oakmeadow.com/courses/the-study-of-music/ I originally thought we would go with an art course, but my dd (who happens to be really great at art and drawing), does not want to take art courses for high school credit!!! We need a fine arts credit for Kolbe so this music course looks pretty good. Integrated Health and Fitness http://oakmeadow.com/courses/integrated-health-and-fitness/ I would like dd to take at least one health course and this one looks like it has a few interesting books. Dd did this one last year and I can't recommend it highly enough. My only regret is not using it with ds 2 years before. It was really excellent! The only caution I would give is that there was quite of bit of what I would call "busy work" in the assignments. You might pre-read and cut some that are a waste of time. Otherwise, the content and pace were great and the conversations the course started would never have happened without it. I'm a huge fan! I was really surprised, as it was a 'get it done' course in my opinion. She ran with it, though, and still talks about it. It also developed her idea that fitness is her own responsibility- now she is more fit than anyone in the family! Hmmm, maybe I should do the course….
