Chris in VA
So dd has a weird punnet square-like representation of a polynomial expression. She has to figure out which expression the box-thing represents. Both have the same "answer" but are FOILed differently. OMG--are you following me? So how do you "unfoil" something? Annie G
Is it something like this? 2x 3 --------------------- 3x| 6x^2 | 9x _|________|____| -4 | -8x | -12 |________|____ so it's 2x +3 times 3x-4, and when you add what is in the boxes, it's 6x^2 +x -12 If it's not something like this I have no idea. But when I've seen this done, it does look like a punnet square.
Dana
Look up factoring.
bettyandbob
You can find videos of the box method on youtube--lots of them. I think the box method makes more sense than FOIL. I teach students both ways though.
readinmom
Box method here, as well. Ds and I watched countless videos on YouTube until he found one that "spoke" to him and his learning style.
