Murrayshire
Has anyone seen these online classes before on ES site? I haven't been on there in awhile and I am a bit surprised! http://www.elementalscience.com/biology-live-online-course/ They have the Biology online classes that uses the Miller & Levine book and the Physical Science online class uses the Physical Science text: Concepts In Action 2011 Any thoughts? I may email her for more info but thought I would try here first. I will cross post to high school board. Edit to add: I'm curious to know how the physical science course would work for an 8th grader instead of using their Classics Series. http://www.elementalscience.com/physical-science-live-online-course/
mom2myboys
I saw her ask about interest the other day on FB. I didn't realize that they were listed on their site already.
Murrayshire
I posted on the high school board as well and mentioned there that I got a reply from Mr. Hudson (the teacher). He sent me some files and answered questions I had. When I get the "okay" to share those, I'll post it here and on my other thread. 😉
Murrayshire
I did hear back from Brad Hudson. I am not able to share the syllabi because it has not gone through the complete editing process yet. They are possibly going to be making study guides to go with them. Here is a little more info he shared with me through email..... I'm sure the syllabi will be up on the website soon and hopefully I will hear back with him about that soon! Quote: (the general science class is the physical science class) "Great to hear from you. Yes it would be a general science class that will cover most general science topics. This will be an online class with direct interaction with me the teacher, I will also be grading the class(tests, quizzes, essay) and issuing a certificate of completion at the end of each semester. This class will meet twice a week for 15 weeks with a break for Thanksgiving. We will be charging $140 per semester which does not include the cost of books (which can be purchased used or rented if so desired). We will be offering a pre enrollment discount of $25 off in the month of May in our newsletter for those who enroll early. Sorry we did not have all of the information on the internet as I am still working out the kinks for the online class. If there is anything else I can help you with please do not hesitate to ask." I had asked him if he was planning to have DVDs of online classes to purchase instead of using the online live classes. I would prefer purchasing them along with a syllabus so I can use them with my younger children when it's time. This was his reply. " At this time we will not have DVD's but we are looking into this however even if the students miss the actual class the recordings will be on the internet to watch at a later time. We are also working on a study guide but it will not be ready until next year." Brad
TarynB
Murrayshire, thanks for coming back to share what you've learned so far. I'll be looking at using this class in a year or two, so am interested to see how this develops.
crazyforlatin
Thank you, Murrayshire. Ever since you posted this, I've been curious about this class. We're signed up for Greek and Latin online classes starting in August , so I'm debating whether DD will be able to take another class.
