haley
Just getting started with SOTW with my 1st grader. How long to you study each chapter?

Desert Strawberry
In first grade, a chapter a week unless they want more.
Miss Tick
We did history three times a week. Sometimes we used a "period" for a craft or library book instead of reading a section from the book.
phathui5
We spend about 2 hours a week on each chapter. Lately that's meant having another family over on Friday mornings and doing it together.
Coco_Clark
Some chapters take us a week, some less than that, and some several weeks. We do a lot of "outside" reading and activities so if it's something that greatly interests us (Pharaohs and pyramids were one chapter like this, for example) we might stay there for several weeks. Other chapters (Ancient India, as an example) we read in one day, did the mapwork, and moved on. I'm not in any hurry to finish the book in one year, however. If you want to follow a "1 book per year" pace, and noting that there are 42 chapters in SOTW 1, you may want to simply divide 42 by your number of school weeks. sagira
Definitely a chapter a week. Even in fifth grade we're shooting for a chapter a week, but with two sections per chapter and longer chapters, sometimes it's challenging.
Sally Day
We do school year-round so have spun some of the longer chapters out over more than one week.
