lea1
I am finishing up FLL2 with my two just-turned-eight-year-old sons and we did FLL1 before 2. After reading and reading prior threads about CLE Language Arts, I am thinking of trying it, since they like and are used to CLE Math. I have looked at the placement test and, since they have not learned the diacrititcal phonics marks, I think they would probably end up placing in 100. For those of you with experience with 100-300, should I just start them from the beginning or what do you think?
FriedClams
I'd start in 301. If they already are solid on phonics, I don't think there's a reason to back up. 2nd grade CLE is pretty tedious with the old-school phonics (which is great if you need it, or start with it). FLL2 gives a great lead in to CLE, so I would think the transition would be easy. FWIW, if you do the CLE reading, I wouldn't start tht one until 3rd grade also. The phonics is tedious in that one, also.
Guest
Take the placement tests anyway. Ignore the marks.
Punks in Ontario
I would either take the placement tests, or, more likely just start with 300 level. Those diacritical marks show up from time to time, but you could either skip them, or give a quick tutorial on them. They will disappear as they advance. lea1
I was hoping you would say to start in level 3:). I think I will do that. I can bring them up to speed pretty quickly if we encounter something we have not covered or that they do not remember. Thanks everyone! Mommy22alyns
I agree with just starting in 3 as well. Sylvia hated the 2nd grade reading because of the diacritical marks!
SnMomof7
I think you can just jump in. We took the placement test, ignored the phonetic markings and my oldest was able to jump into 4th. It is rigorous so we had to figure a few things out together (diagramming), but she did well and we're in 5th now.
