Annie G
I wonder if those of us who favor kids having equal amounts of gifts open them round robin like we do- we go around the family and open gifts one at a time. With this method, it's really clear if a kid has several more than a sibling and that's awkward. Oddly enough, dh loves giving gifts and I almost always have more packages to open than the kids do...and they've always been ok with that, even as tiny kids. We don't even try to make gifts even as far as dollar amount goes, and the kids have never noticed. But it still probably works out reasonably even since every kid usually gets one really wanted item and several other things. When we started having kids move out on their own, things got a little more tricky and we eventually decided to just send them money instead of gifts. The cost of wrapping and shipping just got to be too much, especially for oldest dd who is married with three kids. Shipping multiple gifts to 5 people is costly. (Plus, they enjoy shopping after Christmas)
Mom0012
Someone else mentioned the wow factor. That's what I try to make sure is equal. My main goal is to make sure each one feels special.
