We are watching the NASA launch this morning. The kids are excited! The 2-hour launch window opens at 1:28p EST. There's a 60% chance of launch today. The are currently on schedule and are 50% of the way through loading the liquid oxygen.

Main goal of the mission is to research the climate history of Mars.

Info about the mission here:

Launch video here:

(sometimes silent)

Everything on the web sites is running slowly. I think there's a lot of traffic so don't wait until a minute before launch to try and watch. Try to get in early and then you should hopefully maintain your connection.

I think NASA TV is also a channel on regular TV but I don't own one so I can't be more helpful there.

Dh had to be at work at 4:30 a.m. for this one.

Weather wasn't looking good due to the possibility of lightning, but it's green as of now. Spaceflightnow.com is where I usually go for the latest info.

Is there a final time for them to make a go/no go decision? Or can they decide up until the end of the 2-hour launch window?

I should probably just relax and let the school schedule flex this morning.  :blushing:

They can usually go right up to the end of the window. Sometimes, if they know weather won't improve or there's a technical/mechanical issue that isn't going to change, they'll go ahead and scrub. There's supposed to be a "10 hour turn-around" for all personnel so that no one is working with a lack of sleep. They will sometimes scrub in order to make sure their people have 10 hours before they have to come back to work. That's not an issue today because of the launch time, but it does happen.

Our schedule has downgraded to planetary astronomy :D, the challenge problems for her current algebra 2 chapter, and a literature test.
