bethben
Any particular location in the metro Chicago area that's a nice place to live? Reasonable cost of living please (ie, don't suggest Lake Forest because it's so beautiful there, and the houses aren't as expensive as Beverly Hills mansions :glare: so it's reasonable). bettyandbob
Do you know where work is located and what kind of commute you are willing to have?
bethben
He's looking for work right now. We're thinking of moving there to be closer to family who live in Mt. Prospect. We need a location with newer (late 80s to present) housing because we have a child in a wheelchair and older houses are harder to adapt due to little closed off rooms, narrow hallways, and narrow bathrooms. dirty ethel rackham
What do you consider "reasonable?" That $$ varies around the country, especially if you are moving from an area with a lower cost of living. If you want newer construction that costs less, you need to be further out of the city. How close do you want to be to Mt. Prospect (how long are you willing to drive?)
bethben
Around $325K or less. Beth
MBM
One thing to watch out for is the flooding near the Des Plaines River. It can get really bad sometimes. Another, the area near O'Hare can be loud. Also, commuting can be a bear so you'll want to think that through even if your husband uses Metra instead of driving himself. Here are a few suburban suggestions off the top of my head: Palatine Rolling Meadows Arlington Heights Buffalo Grove Vernon Hills (just west of Lake Forest) I like redfin.com for checking out real estate. They include things like HOA dues, taxes and sales history.
jelbe5
Take a look at various cities in Lake County. Metra is convenient and housing prices would be in your price range. Many homeschool groups if that is important to you.
Just Another Jen
We are in Prospect Heights. You could definitely get something in that price range. But if you want something newer lake county has plenty of new construction. We have family in burner and can be up there in 30 minutes non rush hour.
