MusicMama
My DD has a book club meeting on October 4th. They are supposed to read sci-fi, in honor of the Stars Wars read day. I looked at the Norby Books by Janet Asimov that I enjoyed as a kid, but I think they are out of her depth. She has never read Sci-fi before. She reads well for her age, at about a 3rd grade level, but does have the subject comprehension of a first grader. Complicated or more mature plot lines are lost on her. Any ideas on what to read? sunnyday
Maybe this will help - Sci Fi for 1st - 3rd Graders Ooh, Commander Toad (any of them) would probably be perfect for a Star Wars read!!
Violet Crown
My oldest girls, at about that age, loved the venerable Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet.
Cinder
My oldest girls, at about that age, loved the venerable Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet. My ds2 enjoyed this book at about that age as well.
Farrar
I second Commander Toad. If she's a good reader, she might just check out and read all of them - they're Nate the Great level and very silly. Flight to the Mushroom Planet and The Iron Giant are also great books and could be right for this age... But I would think of them as read alouds, unless your dd just tears through chapter books. Mergath
My dd loves the Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot books. They're from the Captain Underpants guy, so not exactly of stunning literary quality, but easy to read and hilarious for younger kids. GSOchristie
Asher read Commander Toad aloud this summer, I wanted to rip my ears off and throw them away. But he really enjoyed them...so much so that I got to hear them more than once :).
