Sunshine State Sue
One of the things that I like about my son is that he is not swayed by other's ideas, opinions, agendas, but decides for himself whether or not to follow a certain course. I would almost say that he is self-assured except that generally he is somewhat hesitant/resistant/reluctant to try new things. Things that he would enjoy if he would just try them. The closest I can come up with is an independent thinker but I want 1 word... Thanks! I'm getting there.
Sunshine State Sue
Okay. Improve upon this sentence: He is an independent thinker following his own internal guidance. What I want to convey is that he thinks for himself rather than lets others do the thinking for him. The way I have it sounds like he does whatever the heck he likes. Plus, he has relied on me to guide him academically. I'm not speaking about academics here, I'm speaking about life in general. I don't have a real life example though he lives it every day. He has been raised to follow his own internal guidance. That's what we do when we follow the road less traveled and homeschool... Thanks. mysticmomma
While John is hesitant at times, he is always thoughtful about his choices in social and educational situations. Following his own internal guidance, John waits for the right answer before acting.

Nan in Mass
Have you tried asking him? I was flumuxed by that question and when I complained to youngest about it, he told me what to say. And it was absolutely right. I was just too close to him to see it. Nan
