Pretty in Pink
What's the difference?
regentrude
The Penguin classics are better quality, and thus more expensive. Better paper and better typeset and page design, better readability. I find the quality of the typeset the most noticeable distinction. Many (not all) have slightly larger format The Mass market paperbacks are cheaper; often rougher paper, print that often smears when you wipe a finger across. The page design looks less thoughtfully designed (sometimes the print goes very close to the crease) , and the readability is not as good. Standard format. Laura Corin
In addition to what Regentrude said, the Penguin Classics editions are edited by a scholar in that field, and the notes at the back are often very useful. L
marbel
Many mass market paperbacks have something in the paper (acid, I guess) that makes my eye burn and water when I read them.
