ProudGrandma
we have white grapes on our vines and I plan to make juice, but if I find an easy recipe for jelly, that would be nice too. So....if you have one, PLEASE share!!!!!!!!!!!
Parrothead
I made grape jam once. I used seedless grapes which I spun around in my food processor until they were little bits. Then I followed the recipe for grape jelly that comes in the box of Sure-Jel. It turned out well.
Saraswati
I like to use the directions from pick your own for making jam: http://www.pickyourown.org/grapejelly.htm
countrygal
If you don't have a juicer, this works: Put the grapes (stems and all) in a big pot, put a little water in the bottom and simmer them, mashing them once and a while. Once they appear popped and the juice is mostly out (I don't know how long, maybe 10 minutes?) Run it through a large strainer lined with a cheese cloth into another large pan or bowl, squishing it down to push all the juice through. That's the easiest way to get rid of the stems and seeds. I then just follow the recipe in the Sure-jell box. It won't be crystal clear and win a fair ribbon, but it works well!
ProudGrandma
I like to use the directions from pick your own for making jam: http://www.pickyourown.org/grapejelly.htm this is a great site...thanks. It told me, however, that the kind of grapes we have (green grapes) make a bland jelly. So I guess that is out. SO....what can I do with lots of green grapes? WE plan to do some juice...they make wonderful juice.
Susan in TN
I like to use the directions from pick your own for making jam: http://www.pickyourown.org/grapejelly.htm I used this last fall to make Concord grape jam and it turned out fabulously. We had some of it this morning on biscuits. I love this site!
Chris in VA
Grapes are yummy frozen, and they keep fairly well.:-)
countrygal
Do you can the juice? That may be the best idea if it doesn't make good jelly. That way you can have juice all winter.
