jmomma1203
I need recommendations for good nursery rhymes and/or fairy tale books. I have a precocious 2.5 year old, a young K'er, and a first grader. Please let me know what you've loved or hated so I can add to our library. :)
craftyerin
We have the two fairy tales books recommended in Sonlight's PK3-4yo list. They're pretty good for the age group. DK's First Book of Fairy Tales: http://www.amazon.com/A-First-Book-Fairy-Tales/dp/0756621070 Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales: http://www.amazon.com/Hans-Christian-Andersens-Fairy-Tales/dp/0517227185/ref=cm_lmf_tit_11 We have had several nursery rhyme books over the years. They're all pretty much the same. There was one I didn't like, so I'll link to that one as a warning. Mama Geek
Are you looking for picture books or for collections of fairy tales? I came across several books of fairy tales that aren't picture books. http://www.amazon.com/Hans-Christian-Andersen-Loved-Classics/dp/1435143892/ref=pd_sim_sbs_b_2 There are several books with different colors in the name for this set http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Fairy-Dover-Childrens-Classics/dp/0486214370/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375877328&sr=8-1&keywords=blue+fairy+book Charles Perrault also has lots of fairy tales although I don't have any of his yet. HelenNotOfTroy
I love individual fairy tale books with beautiful illustrations. Beauty by Jan Brett, any by Paul Zelinsky, Kinuko Y Craft, or Paul Galdone. I have The Real Mother Goose by Blanche Fisher Wright. I like books that have one nursery rhyme per page with a nice illustration, but I haven't seen one that I liked the specific collection. shawthorne44
I second the DK recommendation. I probably started reading that to my daughter shortly after she turned two. The stories are great, and the pictures are wonderful. Plus, DD loves that the table of contents has pictures. So, I open it to there and ask her which story she would like. She thinks and thinks and then points to one. We read any four books/stories before bedtime. I like this book so much that I "lose count" and we will read "the next one" and then "the next one". I was more thinking collections to save space, but I can look into individual picture books from the library.
