Apologia Biology question

Recommended Posts

For those of you who have done Apologia Biology, is it essential to cover the topics in the order they appear in the book? We live overseas and had to take a sudden trip to the states to help care for my mom. I left our microscope behind so I am thinking about ordering the specimens and covering the dissection topics first. Would this work? Are there any chapters that we should cover before diving into dissections? Thanks so much!

I think you should be fine. There are a couple of chapters that build on each other but, the later modules on the Kingdoms of Animalia and Plantae could easily go toward the beginning. I would think you might want to hit the first chapter for an over view of the whole Kindom-Phylum idea. These sections are the ones that your student probably feels the most familiar with to start off with anyway.

I think the pp is right about the first chapter and familiarity with kingdoms/phylums. I would at least go over the material. If you are using Apologia's tests I might wait on that depending on how long you have in the States. It took roughly 2 weeks per chapter for us to do everything including the test if that helps your planning. I am sure that some specimens can be easily purchased when you are home like the fish so I would leave those chapters for last.

Also don't stress too much about not having everything with you. I think I managed to find a virtual dissection or microscope image for every single needed one online. I might have had a higher or lower magnification but they were all there if needed. ;)
