pitterpatter
Don't know what to think from reading the reviews on Amazon. And, I can't find a good preview. http://www.amazon.com/Coloring-Book-Middle-Bellerophon-Books/dp/0883880075/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top So, what do you think? Anyone have a blog pic of your child coloring one?
TraceyS/FL
I have it - It doesn't seem "bad", I didn't read the reviews on it. It isn't as detailed as the Dover ones we have, but I don't regret buying it. In fact, some of the Dover stuff won't work well for my youngest who continues to have some fine motor issues at 9. Lori D.
Typically, Bellerophon is reproducing actual images from stained glass, tapestries, mosaics, etc. So the crudeness / comic book feel is what a lot of the artwork really looked like back then. If those reviewers on Amazon want actual Medieval art, the Bellerophon and Dover books do a good job of reproducing the art of the times. If those reviewers want detailed, realistic, Alan Lee style artwork coloring books, then they need to look elsewhere. I will say, the Bellerophon and Dover are lovely, but very intricate for younger colorers -- tiny spaces, intricate designs are hard to color neatly with crayons... The little Dover stained glass books and markers worked well for young elementary ages. BEST of luck, whatever you go with! Warmly, Lori D. pitterpatter
Thanks so much! I actually don't mind slightly comic style. I think that would appeal to DD more. I was wondering about the intricacy of the designs. I would prefer something less so, but can't seem to find many alternatives.
Violet Crown
I didn't think the pictures were all that intricate - at least by Bellerophon standards. You might also look at A Medieval Alphabet (also Bellerophon). Or just get them all. How can anyone live without the Bellerophon paper soldiers for the Hundred Years' War? Or Infamous Women? Farrar
We had it from the thrift store. It was fine. Not too hard to color. I agree with Lori that the style of the art was just the style at the time.
