Jane in NC
On its 500th anniversary, Machiavelli's little book of political philosophy is being discussed. You can hear an NPR story here. BBC Radio 4 Extra features a daily reading of an excerpt of The Prince. These 30 minute programs are available for seven days after they first air. LInk. What amused me though is a newer radio play putting Machiavelli on trial. This BBC Radio 4 program features a number of historical figures (Plato, Cesare Borgia, Nixon) as the political advice dispensed by Machiavelli is examined. (Warning: a few sexual comments are made regarding Bill Clinton's indiscretions and Lucrezia Borgia's purported incest.) Damian Lewis stars as Machiavelli. I believe the availability of this radio play is limited on the BBC but Damian Lewis does have an mp3 of it on his website. Perhaps it will have a longer life there. It is a fun diversion--which people may need this time of year.
Miss Marple
Thanks, Jane! The Prince is one of my high school "must reads" so this will be a great intro to the book for them.
Sebastian (a lady)
Oh that sounds great. We're reading The Prince as prep for govt class this summer. This sounds like great fun.
