Mommy22alyns
The name itself puts me off. I've never done Diary of a Wimpy Kid or Captain Underpants, things like that. But should I just loosen up? Both girls would end up reading it.
Erin
Bean's favorite series is Misty. Her second favorite is Dork Diaries. It's light hearted and plays to the girl who just doesn't quite fit. She loves them.
Blessed Mommy
I allowed my daughter (8 yrs old at the time) to check out the first book in the Dork Diaries series. She was reading through it, loving it, and then suddenly became discouraged. She brought the book to me and showed me why. In very large print on one page was "OMG", and then on the next page was "CRAPTASTIC". In our home, this is inappropriate language, especially "OMG" since it's an abbreviation for taking the Lord's name in vain. I was disappointed because I read the first couple of pages in the library before checking it out and it seemed like a fun book. It's too bad they had to ruin it with inappropriate language. mommaklee
OMG can mean "Oh my gosh" or "Oh my goodness" or "Oh my gravy" too. One could easily sub in their own words.
Mommy22alyns
I'm thinking this will have to wait. I'll get her the Go For Gold books instead.
Erin
Bean just walked through the living room as I was reading this post and I said, "Bean, what's OMG stand for?" She immediately said, "Oh my gosh!! Or, Only Monopoly Guys!!" I fully expected "Oh my gosh." That's just something we say at our house. But "only Monopoly guys??" lol I didn't say anything about Dork Diaries, but she said it was an activity in How to Dork your Diary. So I had to look and sure enough, pages 74-77. It gives a bunch of common text/net abbreviations and kids are asked to create their own meanings. Like I said, this is a favorite series at our house. ;)
Bug's Mom
Take a look at the Aldo Zelnick series. We've enjoyed them.
