Pegasus
I've been to North Carolina many times but we usually just visit the in-laws. This year, I want to extend our trip to see and do the North Carolina sights. I welcome any suggestions, from the coast on the east to the mountains on the west. If it helps, our DDs are 13 and 16. It will likely be in the July. Thanks!
sheryl
Welcome to NC! That's quite a span - mtns to ocean. Mountains: Boone, Blowing Rock, Bryson City and go tubing - fun! Chimney Rock, walk the Appl trail "in part", Biltmore, pan for rubies/gold, etc. Charlotte: Mint Museum (last Tues of every month used to be free - call to ask), Nascar Hall of Fame, BGEA, Discovery Place/IMAX theatre. Ocean: Wilmington, Outer Banks - if you do this go to Kitty Hawk (Wright Bros airplane), Nags Head, wild horses. There is much more, but I'm not remembering right now. LOL! Also, google festivals and fairs to see if any pop up that you might like.
Farrar
Since North Carolina is the bestest state, you really shouldn't have any trouble. :D I don't even know what to recommend because it's too, too vast! Too many options!
mommymilkies
Ocracoke Island!
Ellie
Hey, we're going to be there in July as well, for a family reunion at Hatteras. :-) My g-grandfather was the last civilian lighthouse keeper at Ocracoke. :-) You must visit the Outer Banks. The OBX is so different from any other part of the state. You could go to the Lost Colony at Manteo, and the Elizabethan Gardens.
Farrar
If you do the Outer Banks, then Jockey's Ridge is my top pick of awesomeness.
GSOchristie
Boone and Blowing Rock have amazing hiking and nature types of things (we went to college at App State), and if your kids are into trains you can go to Tweetsie. Asheville has the Biltmore House and Grove Park Inn. In Winston-Salem there is old Salem, which you can tour and eat amazing Moravian Sugar Cake. I think there is a Civil Rights museum here in GSO, but we've never been, we have a zoo in Asheboro. The Outer Banks/Kitty Hawk have the Wright Brothers Museum, there are several aquariums, we went to Fort Fisher last year. There is the Battleship NC, and Wilmington in general is very pretty. Pegasus
Wow! Thanks for all the great ideas so far. I'm compiling a list; thinking about turning the list over to my DDs to research each and decide where they want to go.
