Neige
Does anyone have recommendations for a good, solid music curriculum? I've seen Artistic Pursuits for visual art, and am looking for something similar for music. Not to learn to play an instrument, but to teach some music theory, composer study, music history, etc. Many thanks!
Hunter
What Your _ Grader Needs to Know series. The original and the revised series are both good. Jumbo Book of Music (low income friendly)

Down_the_Rabbit_Hole
I second Beautiful Feet's curriculum. Another one is from Home School in the Woods Composer Study http://www.homeschoolinthewoods.com/HTTA/AP/Composers.htm
J-rap
Certainly this is much simpler than what you're looking for (more of a unit study), but depending on the ages of your children, I found this to be a good introduction to composers and their music: http://www.christianbook.com/meet-the-great-composers-kit-1/june-montgomery/9780739010440/pd/16908?item_code=WW&netp_id=118745&event=EBRN&view=details
merylvdm
If your kids are middle school or older Discovering Music looks amazing and is what I will use next. It is currently on special at Homeschool Buyers Co-op. This year I read Lives of the Musicians: Good Times, Bad Times (and What the Neighbors Thought) with my 7th grader and it was great fun. For younger kids, The Music Games International CD Rom games are excellent. They take a composer, eg Tchaikovsky and teach music appreciation and understanding through a number of mini games related to one of his works - in this case The Nutcracker Suite. Mom0012
I have not used this, but wanted to: Beautiful Feet's History of Music http://bfbooks.com/Literature-Packs/History-Of-Classical-Music-Packs I just bought this and am looking forward to using it next year. I know Homeschool in the Woods has a really cool composer lapbook - beautiful - but I don't have the patience for that.
