mathnmusic
My kids are interested in learning idioms and sayings like "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" and things like that. Does anyone know of any website or book that lists idioms? thanks in advance!
swellmomma
I have a scholastic idiom dictionary the kids like and today we started a little book I got at RR called Daily warm ups : Common English idioms (I also have common confusing words, earth science and biology level 2 from this series)
Mona
I got an ebook from teacher express during the $1 sale and an idiom dictionary from PBS. Here's a link to the book. http://teacherexpress.scholastic.com/20-hands-on-activities-for-learning-idioms?open_gallery=y#
mathnmusic
Thank you for your suggestions, swellmomma and Mona! Wish I could check out those books from the library, but looks like they're not carried at our library system. Any chance there's a good collection of idioms that's free online? duckens
We have these in the house: In a Pickle and Mad as a Wet Hen If the library does not have any of the books listed, maybe the librarian can direct you to a resource your library DOES have. Walking-Iris
http://teacherexpress.scholastic.com/fabulously-funny-idiom-plays-mkt14941# I have this Scholastic book. Also there's the Amelia Bedelia books, Put Your Foot in Your Mouth, Easy As Pie, A Chocolate Moose for Dinner, From the Horse's Mouth, and Funny You Should Ask. The Parts and Even More Parts books are fun. The What Your (grader) Needs to Know books have sections of "sayings." You could find some of those at your library hopefully. Or interlibrary loan. 2_girls_mommy
Do you have any of the What Your X Grader Needs to Know books around? They have a list for each year. We used to start our day by reading one and the explanation. The kids loved it.
