Liz CA
by which I mean a below the knee length and short sleeves with a classic cut, A style or flowing. I am about 5'7", fairly slender but don't like my thighs exposed and I am way too Scandinavian to wear sleeveless with shoulders exposed that would burn in 0.5 seconds.... Where to look...and oh did I mention that I don't really want to spend $150 on one dress...?
J-rap
I would check out Lands End. I haven't looked there lately, but it seems like they'd have what you're looking for.

Their quality seems a little better than lanes end has been lately.
applethyme
Our Sears has a Land's End store in it. There were quite a few cute dresses. It was nice to try on some of their clothes to see how their sizing fit me. I may order some more from their catalog.

Liz CA
I agree. Their quality seems a little better than lanes end has been lately. I used to be a Lands' End fan but since Sears has taken over, the quality has suffered a lot. Thanks for the recommendations!
