Arcadia
When my kids were in kindergarten, the older only gives crisp answers while my younger will give you paragraphs. It is more their personality than anything else but both gave correct answers. We didn't do paragraph dictations until 1st grade. Dictation is done once a week. However it is easy to pick a short paragraph from the book you are discussing and use that for dictation. For reading comprehension, my older is weak in inferences and that is what we work on. We just practise with story books.
Lara in Colo
Writing with Ease. I highly recommend it. It does lots of comprehension (with leading questions) and starts off easy, then gets harder. Even though she is getting good stuff at school, I would start with level 1 and go from there. It is my children's favorite part of the day. We end up getting the books they use for passages and reading them aloud.
*Lulu*
The writing portions of WWE are so good that I would still use it and just skip the grammar if you do not want to use it. Although you also could just pull passages from books you already are reading and do narration/dictation with them if you feel comfortable with the skills you are working on.
