4ofus
Thinking of this for my rising 4th grader. Is it too young? Do the volumes correspond with grade levels? Thanks.
Hunter
The first volume is a bit easier than the rest, and then they are about equal. I use the map drawing lessons with adult tutoring students. I'm a kid at heart; I use many of the lessons for my own self-education.
mumto2
The books do not correspond to grade levels. Depending on what else you are doing you might want to get one and try it. For instance there is one with several American history topics. My friend did one book a year with great success! I had all of them and used them intermingled with unit studies for years so it does depend on your families style too. We did still use them for fourth grade if that helps. laughing lioness
We have the whole set. We do a lot of drawing and they are part of our art shelf. My 4/5th grader is currently carrying them around with her and creating scenes from them (you can see a sample here if you scroll down a bit- sadly my phone photos don't capture just how well done they are). We love this series- they are a simple, easy intro to drawing skills that will give your kids mastery and confidence!
Down_the_Rabbit_Hole
We have used these for a few years now. They are wonderful and help dd draw great pictures to accompany narrations. We finally got the whole set (slowly collected them from paperback swap and ebay) and now dd is using them to make a book of animals. I would love it if they come out with a World History book. k3bzr18
Can you use them for 2nd grade or are they specifically for older kids?

Down_the_Rabbit_Hole
Can you use them for 2nd grade or are they specifically for older kids? I think they can be used at any age. If your child can copy an image and follow the sequence then they can use it. My dd started using these when she was about 4/5.
freeindeed
We used them with corresponding FIAR titles when my middle children were younger, about ages 5 to 9. My children still enjoy these books now. I think they are fine for older children.

Hunter
I say that the target age is grades 1-4, but many people have adapted them both up and down. I often teach the background, main figure and minor figures on different days, and then spend 2 days doing a final copy of the entire picture. I often teach just the backgrounds for geography and environmental science biome studies. I sometimes use just the contour outlines, and then zentangle (doodle) inside the contour lines. Unfortunately the author is dead, so I don't think there will be be any more books published. :crying:
laughing lioness
If your kids can draw simple shapes, they can use these books.
