TravelingChris Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Hi all, I have a Kindle Fire and I am trying to download public domain books, specifically A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court right now. So I found Project Gutenberg on my KIndle and saw a file that said Kindle and downloaded it. It won't open. My dd wants to read some of her English reading on the Kindle so she can read in the car even when it is dark. Any help? Quote
Cynful Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I'm not completely sure on this but hopefully this will bump your question at least. On my iPad, I just use the browser to go to Project Gutenberg and then choose the correct format to download so that I can read it on my Kindle app. That seems to do it. Hope that helps, Quote
TravelingChris Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 No, I did download Kindle with illustrations, Kindle without illustrations and some other file too since Kindle didn't work. Nothing works. Quote
arborite Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Try downloading the file to a computer then emailing it to your kindle. Every Kindle has its own email address, under settings. The "mobi" format is the Kindle format, if that helps. Quote
Kim in Appalachia Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 If emailing to your Kindle doesn't work, there used to be a program called Caliber ?? or Calibrex??? I can't remember the exact name. You should be able to find it by googling "program to convert to Kindle format" or something along those lines. I used to have it on my computer but never used it and lost it when my computer had crashed. I believe you use it by downloading the file, the program converts it, then you can email it or just put it on your Kindle. HTH Quote
VeritasMama Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 You can't download books from your Kindle browser. You can download them directly to your Kindle from your computer using the USB cord. Save the Gutenburg files onto your computer, plug the Kindle into the computer, then you should be able to open your Kindle directory. You simply copy the files on your computer, then you open the kindle and paste them into the folder of your choice. I save them to my "Docs" folder to make them easier to find. Quote
