FairProspects
Why are there no HIGs listed at Rainbow Resource for Sing. 6A/B S/E? Where is a good place to get them then?
Alte Veste Academy
I don't believe they have been produced yet. Even singaporemath.com doesn't carry them.
boscopup
There aren't any. Only teacher guides.
FairProspects
So how do you people teach this stuff?!? I'm pretty sure I'm going to need some guidance for that level. :crying:
amsunshine
We used the teacher guides, but I was less than impressed with them (compared with the HIGs).
Alte Veste Academy
We just moved into AoPS. It is rotten though. (the lack of HIG for SM6, not AoPS, LOL) Maybe e-mail the SM folks and ask when it is due to be published?
boscopup
I plan to skip it and go to prealgebra. :tongue_smilie:
crazyforlatin
I plan to skip it and go to prealgebra. :tongue_smilie: Exactly, although I have MM6. I didn't know about the lack of HIG's, so now I feel better about skipping SM 6.
Dana
There are no current plans for doing a HiG for 6 standards from what I've read on the Singapore site.
MyLittleWonders
I realized quickly that you have to look ahead before assigning the textbook practice exercise. It's not a big deal as I feel pretty confident through Algebra 2 and dh is a high school math teacher for when I get stuck. But, not having the HIG is inconvenient, to say the least.
FairProspects
Well, boo. I had planned to do SM 6 because I think ds lacks the maturity for AoPs, but I don't think me screaming at the manual because I don't understand what is going on either will help with the maturity producing process. I may have to re-think this and start with Jacobs or something instead. boscopup
He might like Jacobs. :) It has cartoons.
redsquirrel
I didn't use the standard edition of SM. There is a HIG for the US edition. I started with the US version because a friend gave me all the text books for free. I considered switching to the standard edition, but changed my mind when I found out the standard edition doesn't have a HIG for year 6. I didn't have any HIG until 4th grade, but I was very glad to have them for years 4-6. We went from Singapore 6a& 6b to AoPS this year for pre-A. It has been a very smooth transition. I think redsquirrel's idea of switching to the U.S. edition for 6th is good. If you don't want to do that, you could also kill time and let your DS dip his toe into prealgebra with Life of Fred. I wouldn't use it as a sole program long-term but would definitely consider it as a maturity bridge in your shoes (and I may well be in those same shoes with DD and DS6 at some point). AKshanmar
You could also switch to Math In Focus, level 6. HMH purchased the rights to the American version of Singapore Math. It looks almost identical, but the teacher edition is laid out very nicely.
