kalanamak
Kiddo wants to learn conversational Spanish to be able to communicate with kids at the playground and Y. I'd love something not bookish to have him listen to/view while I'm at work.
sparrow
Have you looked at Mango Languages? You may find it's available through your library for free. I ended up having to go to the next county and buying a library membership, but it's $20 well spent. I'm amazed at how much my kids have learned. They use the Mango app on their iPod Touches. TeachingMyTwo
These might not all be applicable to you on account of the ages, but I am sharing all the resources I know of in case anyone else finds them useful. Some are better for little ones. Edited to add: Nevermind, I see your child is 10! They will mostly all be too young, expect maybe El Perro y El Gato and Speekee perhaps.http://www.whistlefritz.com/ (WONDERFUL! immersion)www.speekee.com (free trial/online version available, immersion)http://www.gpb.org/salsa/term/episode (immersion)www.kidstartspanish.com (immersion)http://www.bocabeth.com/ (Billingual)http://www.amazon.co...h/dp/B0051WNQGM (Billingual) or the full Latin American version of YBCR for immersion called Tu Bebe Puede Leerhttp://www.bashoandfriends.com (immersion, lots of audio with some youtube videos, this artist created all of the materials for Lango children's language schools nationwide www.langokids.com, many of the songs are the same as those offered on his CD available for purchase online. Samples on youtube. ) (edited to add: He has a great song to learn spanish alphabet and vowels on youtube! highly reccomend that one, I forgot about it until now. http://joseluisorozco.com/ (immersion, mostly all audio I beleive, very authentic. A friend raves about these cd's.)www.pocoyo.com (to see samples of Spanish, search Pocoyo America Latina on youtube. I was able to find some randomly ONLY in Spanish at Walmart for Christmas a couple years ago.Perro y El Gato. We like these a lot and I would like to get the whole set for Christmas, you can check out the samples I just added to a playlist on Youtube. https://www.youtube....low=grid&view=1 (http://www.amazon.co...ords=perro gato)http://www.dinolingo.com/http://www.littlepim.com/And of course, I always scout the children's video areas for videos with Spanish play options. I have been able to get Strawberry Shortcake, Thomas, etc.Good Luck!!!

TarynB
My DS10 is using Visual Link Spanish online independently. http://www.spanishprograms.com/cj_vls/ You can try 11 lessons for free. They also have sales frequently if you sign up for their emails - I didn't pay as much as the current advertised price. We've tried a few other Spanish programs that he ended up getting bored with, but he has stuck with this one and enjoys it. I bought him a year's access to the level one program and he wants to continue with level two. I don't push it, he does it for fun. He talks to me in Spanish frequently, so it seems to be working. 3andme
If you have online access, you can watch the First Steps series. They cover all the basic vocabulary and would be appropriate for that age. They probably work best with an instructor's reinforcement but they are a good starting point for an individual learner. The first series is First Steps 1-10. After that, there are 10 more videos called The Next Steps and the final 10 called Another Step. The First Steps Again, Next Steps again... videos are to be used for practice after previously watching the original series i.e. watch First Step 1 then First Step Again 1, then First Step 2 and First Step Again 2.
