ProudGrandma
The last four times my son has eaten corn for supper by bedtime his tummy was feeling unhappy. Can corn cause this? He never gets sick and before these last four times eating corn has never been a problem...is it coincidence?
magic
Yes, my 16 year old can not eat kernels of corn. We discovered this when he was 5. For some reason his body has a hard time breaking it down. He can do popcorn and corn bread but not plain corn. The doctor told us that he may grow out of it but so far he still has issues. GailV
Warning -- TMI ahead! -- when I was young corn kernels went straight through me. These days eating any type of corn products hypes me up, and makes my joints hurt. Corn is a fairly common problem food.
justLisa
Corn is a high allergen. DD cannot have very much of it. It used to much worse, but now she can tolerate just a bit.
Guest inoubliable
Lots of people have issues with corn. Humans can't digest the outside kernel, only the inside yum yum nutritional stuff. http://www.livestrong.com/article/528999-sweet-corn-and-digestion/ Blech. That doesn't explain a lot of it. It's the best I could find, though. I think younger kids have a more difficult time with corn just from what I've observed.
ProudGrandma
He is 10 years old why is this showing up now for the first time?
Guest inoubliable
He is 10 years old why is this showing up now for the first time? Corn coming from a certain supplier the last few times? Hard to tell, really, but I'd put my money on it being more to do with the corn (where it's from, what's been sprayed on it, etc.) than some sudden digestion issue with your son. Freckles
My daughter is very allergic to corn. It causes her stomach to hurt as well as inflame her respiratory tract. We didn't find out she was allergic until she was six. Cutting out corn and corn products finally stopped the years of bronchitis and upset tummys. HiddenJewel
You can develop allergies at any point. If the immune system is weakened you may also see more intolerance type issues.
