pjssully
One more request. My history fell apart this year so I am having to revise our plans. I need a good overall history book that covers the time period of the crusades and beyond. (American history will have to wait until next year;) Any suggestions would GREATLY be appreciated! thanks so much pam
jhschool
The Susan Wise Bauer Middle Ages book takes you to the First Crusade. She just put out a new one but I can't find it on amazon. I saw the cover somewhere...it had "The Triumph of Death" on it... maybe it's not published yet...
jhschool
I recommend the Spielvogel books. Also, the REA AP European History book takes you from 1350 to 1650. It is very well written and reads like a history book, not like a test prep book. Finally, The Susan Wise Bauer Middle Ages book takes you to the First Crusade. plansrme
The Duiker/Spielvogel texts do this. They are supposedly college-level texts, but they seem to be commonly used in AP World History courses. More importantly, they did not have the fluff that is common in high school texts. They are dense, but my bright 7th grader used them with no problem. The World History is available in one volume or two, and there is some overlap (a couple of hundred years' worth) between the two volumes. Older editions are available for a dollar or two on half.com. If you noodle around on half.com and similar websites, you will find a wealth of study materials published for this book(s). My daughter used these for AP World History, and I spent maybe $20 on textbooks and supporting materials for two years' worth of history.
