athena1277
Dd is going to knife safety training with her AHG troop next weekend to be allowed to have/use a knife at certain AHG events. The guidelines say that it has to be 2.5 in. or less and not a fixed blade knife. They recommended a few brands (including the BSA knife), but there are so many to choose from and I'm afraid if I get a small, less expensive one, she won't be able to do the whittling part of the training. What do your scouts use for a pocket knife? What would you recommend for a simple starter knife?
Unicorn.
A good Swiss Army knife. Not the cheapest one, but a mid priced one.
jen3kids
Check to see if the knife needs to have a locking blade. Many Swiss Army knives do not. If you have a local REI or similar outdoor store, check there. They have tons of beginner knives by Gerber that are well made and not expensive. Momma4Boys
My 2 older scouts have this knife http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Huntsman-Scout-Pocket/dp/B0007QCOOW/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1347845003&sr=8-12&keywords=swiss+army+knife+saw they have used it a lot on camping trips and have been pleased with it.
