Laurie4b
My sons & I went camping this past weekend with youth group families --well uh--strictly speaking, they camped and I participated in all daytime activities but showered and slept in a nearby hotel! They decided not to cook the rest of the eggs for breakfast on Sunday and by the time we got home, the eggs were immersed in cold water rather than on ice. My issue isn't the temperature--the water was quite cold , but rather the immersion in water. I've got a vague memory that you're not supposed to wash eggs because it soaks off a protective coating that keeps bacteria out. The eggs were in water probably 12+ hours. Should I toss them or are they okay to cook thoroughly and eat?
Parrothead
Eggs that are purchased in the store have been washed. That is why they have to be refrigerated. As long as they've been kept cool, I'd say they are safe to eat.
Remudamom
I'd probably use them.
Tammyla
http://www.fsis.usda.gov/factsheets/Focus_On_Shell_Eggs/#20 This link does mention not washing eggs due to the water entering through the shell. I'm not sure what I would do with them.
kiana
I would break them into a cup, take a sniff, and assuming they smelled okay, cook them. Eggs smell off *extremely* quickly. You could also cook them up and feed them to an animal if you don't want to waste them, assuming you have one.
