Laura Corin
I highly recommend it. I've just seen the first and it was stunning. It's a filming of Shakespeare's Richard II, Henry IV and Henry V. The text is rearranged to be more cinematic, but the words are powerful and the acting is wonderful. Henry IV is played by Rory Kinnear; Calvin and I saw him play Hamlet on stage and he was just as good in this. Not for young children - scenes of execution and mutilation. Rene Austen
I can't wait to see this! The is amazing. I saw a production of all four of the plays in the Henry cycle at a young and impressionable age, and I've loved them ever since.
Lizzie in Ma
It won't show here and I am devastated. I've been looking forward to it for a long time.
Candid
So who is Patrick Stewart playing? Surely not Hal?
Laura Corin
So who is Patrick Stewart playing? Surely not Hal? Richard is Ben Whishaw, Bolingbroke/Henry IV is Rory Kinnear, Prince Hal/Henry V is Tom Hiddleston. There's also David Suchet, James Purefoy.... Can't wait to see the rest. Word Nerd
I hope it comes to DVD. It looks fabulous! (I also noticed Mary from Downton Abbey in the preview.)
Dinsfamily
Looks like those of us in the US will be able to see them later this year. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/9333893/The-BBCs-The-Hollow-Crown-set-visit.html These versions will also be about British theatre. The BBC have secured some of the brightest and best in the country for these flagship productions, which will be screened on the four Saturdays running up to the Olympics on BBC Two and, simultaneously, on public big screens around the country. They will also be screened later in the year in the US on PBS – the Hollow Crown is co-produced with help from the big bucks of NBC Universal. They look great. I can't wait.
