Heather in Neverland
This is for a rising 5th grade boy with a low "boredom" threshold. :D I've already picked "The Iliad for Boys and Girls" and "The Odyssey for Boys and Girls". Any other ideas? Thanks!
Hoggirl
Archimedes and the Door of Science (I think that's the title???). Theras and his town was simple, but instructional about Athenian life.

Michelle T
My DS, 12, really enjoyed this. It's about a boy from Athens who is kidnapped, trying to make his way to the Olympic games, where a friend will be competing in the pankration. Pankration was a very brutal sport back in ancient days, sort of a mix between boxing and wrestling, but the only rules were: no biting and no eye gouging. Anyway, the book had tons of action and fighting, two things my DS loves. It wouldn't be a good choice for a sensitive child though. Peela
Hawthorne's Greek Myths are good, but D'Aulaires are just beautiful. Also, the Children's Homer.
AuntPol
My kids liked Alexander the Great Rocks the World by Vicky Shecter. They also enjoyed reading The Curse of the Acropolis by Carole Marsh. It is in modern times but has real kids (author's grandkids) solving a mystery in Greece and brings up a bit of ancient history info. Very quick and easy read w/ questions, vocabulary, etc in back of book. They liked: Tales of the Odyssey series by Mary Pope Osborne Greek Gods and Goddesses -McCaughrean (they liked her books better than D'Aulaires)
