k2bdeutmeyer
Do you have a favorite set? I don't have any extra real kitchen utensils to hand over and am looking at getting the kids a cheap (preferrably) set off Amazon with a bit of a giftcard I have left. We only have one Playdough set (an oven with a few kitchen type utensils) & they fight over it constantly. We need something more. Ideas? West Coast Mom
I can tell you what set to avoid. We bought the PLAY-DOH SUPER TOOLS Playset Item #: 23929 for Christmas. Total waste of money. None of the tools worked and the whole thing went in the trash. There are other larger sets with the same instruments in them. I'd avoid those too. Cinder
We got the most use out of "real" tools--garlic press, rolling pin--and plastic knives.
Jean in Newcastle
We got the most use out of "real" tools--garlic press, rolling pin--and plastic knives. I was just coming here to type the same thing!

I just don't think I can get all those things (I don't already have extras) for what I have left on my giftcard. I was hoping to spend like $15. *Lulu*
There is a set of Milissa and Doug tools that my kids love. It has three or four small rolling pins with different designs as well as some presses.
craftyerin
We have this set along with a box of plastic cookie cutters. Both came in easter baskets last year. ;) My kids are big fans.
Kathleen in LV
You can pick up free plastic knives the next time you're at a fast food restaurant. And garage sales (and thrift stores) have TONS of cheap kitchen gadgets. I wouldn't necessarily buy them to use in my kitchen, but they're great for PlayDoh & crafts. In particular, I frequently see bags of plastic cookie cutters, which are fun with PlayDoh, but can also be used as stencils. (I also have gotten a lot of use out of a cheap set of plastic funnels I picked up for $.50 - great with sand & water play.) Also, I think it's a lot more fun for children to use the "real thing" (like a rolling pin) than a tiny plastic version if they're big enough to handle it. I personally would save my Amazon money for a good book. ;)
magnificent_baby
My kids love any kind of play-doh brand cookie cutter type things. My 8 year old cut out about 50 small stars the other day. For Christmas, they got the campfire set from Amazon. It is adorable, and they play with that a lot. I highly recommend it! This is the only set that I have not trashed, such as the ice cream shop which made a huge mess (the dough got stuck in the parts and dried). ETA: Looks like the price has gone up a lot! It is now $32. I am certain I only paid around $15. Edited April 11, 2012 by magnificent_baby
