Cuisenaire Rods

I'm looking at buying some cuisenaire rods for my kids, a preschooler and a 6 year old. Are the introductory sets of 79 enough pieces, or do I need a bigger set? I love saving money, but sometimes it seems like I end up spending longer in the end when I have to buy an extra set of something later on.

Thanks for your help!

The intro kit has a nice little booklet that comes with it detailing how to use them and offers some games---but definitely get as many as you can---you want at least 10 orange rods and the intro kit doesn't have enough 10 rods to make 100---being able to make that 100 is key!!!

You could never have enough imo!!! ;)

What they said :D

I also try to put a plug in for getting a set of (10) base-10 "flats." These are the same scale as the Cuisenaire Rods and ordinarily serve as 100 values. This way children can model 3-digit numbers from the beginning of their math adventure.

Any chance you have a link to the exact kind that you mean? It's been a while since I looked, but I never did get around to finding the right ones.
