Element
Has anyone used these literature guides? Thoughts? I'm thinking of using the 3rd grade guide with my rising 2nd and 4th graders next year. Here is a list of the books included in the 3rd guide: The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald The Princess and the Curdie by George MacDonald The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann Wyss Tanglewood Tales by Nathanial Hawthorne Log of the Cowboy by Andy Adams Flower Fables by Louisa May Alcott Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgeson Burnett Black Beauty by Anna Sewell Hilaire Belloc’s Cautionary Verses by Hilaire Belloc The Lost World by Sir Arthur Doyle Even if you haven't used the guides, I would appreciate any input on the Great Books Academy curricula or programs. I'm really only familiar with Great Books at the college level (Shimer, St. Johns) but I would like to do more at the elementary level. We do read the books (we've already read half of the list above) but, honestly, I'm not that great at initiating or facilitating lit discussions (...and by "not that great," I mean "pretty bad.") justamouse
I bought 3, 4, 5, and 6 I think. Or maybe 4, 5, 6? Through Angelicum, which are the same. They should be here any day now.
Roxy Roller
:bigear: FYI - I emailed to find out if they were working on more guides and the response was that they are just finishing up the 7th and 8th grade guides. They will be ready by the end of the summer.

Let us know what you think, if you don't mind. I'm a little hesitant to purchase since they have a "no return" policy. Thank you! That's good to know.

woolybear
Is there a sample anywhere? I like the looks of Great Books Academy overall, but I have never used any of their products. I do refer to their booklists, though. I didn't see a grade 1 or 2. I don't need those years, but I was just wondering.
