meggie
A friend of a friend is interested in homeschooling. She lives in California. I know that you can somehow set yourself up as a private school and not have to be a certified teacher. My question is...How do you go about declaring yourself to be a private school? Is there some kind of paper work? Do you just send in an affidavit to the school district saying you are a private school? TIA :bigear:
KrissiK
In October you file a Private School Affadavit. It's very easy. I can't remember where you find the form, but I know that HSLDA links to it when the time comes.
Hen
yes, you just file and you can do it online. Ca homeschool network has a really helpful information page and walks you through it and has a link where you can do it online, or has a sample letter if you'd rather do it that way. Ca homeschool Network it is really painless, and Ca is a very easy State to homeschool in. :001_smile:
Hen
also, if you have questions, you can call Ca homeschool network and someone will help you on the phone, they are very nice. I had to call them when my friend pulled her son out of PS spring break and needed to get her ducks in a row.

Ellie
Here's the California Dept. of Ed. site info on filing an affidavit. The affidavit is filed between October 1 and 15 each year. Here's the affidavit itself.
