RainbowSprinkles
Becoming a Montessori certified teacher sounds like something I would enjoy doing. I found a few places that offer certification programs, one of them can be done exclusively online. Are there any Montessori teachers on this board? I'm trying to understand why there are different programs and they greatly vary in price. Do all of them get you a job in a Montessori school? Obviously at this point in my life, the online one would be perfect for me. Has anyone heard of this one? http://www.montessoritraining.net/curriculum_materials/preschool_kindergarten_program.htm I would love to hear your thoughts on this! Chris in VA
Not sure what the various cert agencies require. I know there's AMS and AMI schools, and NAMTA (think that's the acronym), too. I would assume you could do the basics online, but I'm sure you'd need irl experience with the works and with the students to be considered hireable. Some schools allow assitants to go to school and do their field experience as a paid position. There is demand here, but IDK about other areas of the country. Amy in KS
I've worked in a Montessori school. Most only want AMI or AMS certified staff and most don't like the online certification. Look into pay and the cost of the degree ...
Mrs_JWM
I did the Infant/Toddler course through NAMC after I got a BS in secondary English education and taught high-school English for 5 years. I wanted to use Montessori techniques once we had a child and started homeschooling. Although it was fun to take the course, knowing what I know about actual teacher training, it would not have prepared me to teach in a classroom. I just looked at the tuition - did I spend $2000?!! Holy carp! I wouldn't recommend that program over an AMI or AMS-cerified program; the caliber is not the same at all.
