FlyingMOm
Okay, this is probably dumb question but what do parents of young children do when traveling in big cities and using taxis? I am assuming that they don't haul a car seat all over town, does the taxi have one? Are kids exempt from car seats when they are riding in a taxi? We are planning a trip to NY City sometime in the next year and my youngest will be 3yo. I have traveled in many big cities- NYC, Rome, London, Paris, etc. but all of that was before I had kids so I wasn't paying attention to what parents do. LMA
Taxis in NYC are exempt from the car seat law. http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/html/passenger/faq_pass.shtml#
OLG
Yes, as PP says, taxis are exempt in NYC. We did this when ds was young - no problem. Same for DC and at the time San Fran. Have fun!
Annie G
We visited NYC when our granddaughter was a year old. The first couple cab rides were scary but we quickly got used to it. No way could we have dragged a carseat all over the city.
FlyingMOm
Thank you both! This is the one thing I have been stressing about re: this NYC trip.
Hwin
There is a little vest you can buy that might be handy. I'd like to think I'd spring for it if I had a toddler to cart around NY, but it's $100.
ErinE
We didn't use a car seat once my child outgrew the infant carrier. Many taxis wouldn't stop when I had my carrier, I doubt they would stop for a car seat.
zaichiki
Wow. Just FYI... those NYC cabbies can be a bit crazy behind the wheel. I think I'd *want* a car seat for my little one in that situation. What about taking one of those car seat/stroller combinations?
