AJ1972
We are getting frustrated with the computer program that we have been using. My daughter has learned a lot from it, but she is getting bored with it and we need something new. Textbooks, please. Thanks :)
5Bmom
We love Explode the Code. We do it with the TM, which has lots of activites, and the Code Cards. It IS a full program. We had in BOB Books and Step Into Reading books, and my K-er is reading well.
Stellalarella
We really like using Phonics Pathways, the 9th edition. Just open and go.
KristenR
I highly suggest the All About Reading program. Depending on where she is you can start her on the Prelevel or right to Level 1. Then as she advances you can segue into their All About Spelling program. All the bells and whistles to the program will be a nice change of pace from a computer curriculum. kristinannie
If she is still doing short vowel sounds and CVC words and you want to pair phonics with ZB handwriting, I highly suggest First Start Reading by Memoria Press. It is excellent. We have tried MCP Plaid Phonics and, while I liked it, it didn't have enough practice to master (it is very spiral). My son is now doing ETC 2 which is review for him reading wise, but it is good review for him to solidify the phonics he can already read. We also do the Struggling Reader phonics games. They are awesome. These are only good for those who are already familiar with letter sounds and short vowels, but the increase in reading ability happens quickly and relatively painlessly. I bought this at a convention as an impulse buy and it is my favorite piece of curriculum. I have the whole system and I highly recommend the phonemic awareness games and the sight word games as well (although I know a lot of people hate sight words, I do teach some sight words after basic phonics mastery just to improve reading speed). You don't have to purchase the tests, but they are created by a reading specialist and I plan to test my kids annually so I can plug up any holes in their reading. laundrycrisis
I just ordered Alpha Phonics because DS2 has hit a rut with Reading Eggs. He is also over all the phonics books that involve lots of pictures and discussions of beginning, ending and middle sounds and spending time on the alphabet and single letter sounds. I'm hoping Alpha Phonics is what he is ready for - just the phonics without a lot of pictures or stories. I also have Bob Books and the Starfall readers to use with it for reading practice.
